1. Nursery Assistant / Support Worker (Entry-Level)

2. Nursery Practitioner / Early Years Educator (Qualified)

  • The Role: Acting as a “key person” for a specific group of children. You will plan structured educational activities aligned with early years frameworks, track development milestones, and build strong relationships with parents.

  • Qualifications: Requires a relevant childcare qualification—typically Level 2 or Level 3 (e.g., NVQ/CACHE Level 3 in Childcare and Education).

  • Salary/Pay: Salaries range from £23,000 to £33,000+ per annum, depending highly on your level of qualification and location.

3. Room Leader / Senior Practitioner

  • The Role: Leading a specific age room (e.g., the Baby Room or Toddler Room). You will manage the room’s team of assistants, oversee the daily schedule, ensure safeguarding compliance, and mentor junior staff.

  • Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 qualification with a few years of hands-on nursery experience.

  • Salary/Pay: Usually £26,000 to £35,000 per annum.

4. Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

  • The Role: The administrative and operational head of the setting. Responsibilities include managing budgets, meeting strict regulatory/safeguarding frameworks, hiring staff, and handling parent inquiries.

  • Qualifications: Usually a Level 3 or higher (sometimes an Early Years Degree), plus extensive supervisory experience.

  • Salary/Pay: Ranges significantly from £35,000 to over £55,000+ per annum for high-end or large nursery groups.

5. Support & Specialized Roles

  • Bank Staff : Zero-hour or flexible contract staff who step in to cover sickness or peak times. Great for students or those wanting flexibility.

  • Nursery Cook / Chef: Prepares nutritious, allergen-safe meals for the children daily.

  • Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO): Works specifically with children who require additional learning or developmental support.
