Job role description for Room Leader:

  • Lead and manage the room team, ensuring all staff members are supported, motivated, and working collaboratively to deliver high-quality care and education.
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, tailored to meet the individual needs of children.
  • Ensure the room environment is safe, clean, and fully compliant with health and safety regulations, conducting regular risk assessments and maintaining staff-to-child ratios.
  • Establish strong partnerships with parents and carers, providing regular updates on their child’s development and addressing any concerns in a professional manner.
  • Mentor and support team members, providing guidance on best practices and identifying opportunities for their continuous professional development.
  • Represent the nursery professionally and attend staff meetings, training, and community events.

As a Room Leader you will have:

  • A level 3 or above childcare qualification
  • Experience leading or supervising a small team of nursery staff
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities
  • A passion for children’s education and care, and a commitment to inclusivity
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Enthusiasm to reflect on and constantly improve practice and to lead by example
  • An ability to safeguard and protect children
  • A flexible and can-do attitude – no two days are ever the same!
